Early-Stage American Investor Active in Region

Angel Strategies is an American investment firm investing in early-stage Øresund firms. It offers assistance as well as financing.

by Lawerence B. Landman

The investor will also help firms not yet ready for financing to improve their business practices, add management talent, and become fundable. Below are investment criteria firms must meet to attract capital.

  • Seasoned management working full time
Successful teams work together as one cohesive unit. All experience is valuable, but more varied experience perhaps better helps one deal with the vast array of issues a small growing firm faces. As needed, Angel Strategies can help supply, or supplement, a firm’s management team.
  • Working board of directors
With management working full time to execute strategy, others need to help develop this strategy and oversee its implementation. As this implies, commercial experience is generally more valuable on a board than technical expertise. Angel Strategies appoints to its boards those whose experience and outlook help them best advance the interests of the company, and not necessarily those of Angel Strategies.
  • Working scientific advisory board
If technical expertise is not crucial for the board of directors, it certainly is for the scientific advisory board. When Angel Strategies invested in the Swedish 3D software firm EON Reality it helped the firm add several members to its advisory board.
  • Secure intellectual property
Without strategies for securing intellectual property no firm can maintain long-term profitability. Angel Strategies has entered into a joint venture with a firm specializing in providing small high-technology firms with worldwide intellectual property strategies.
  • Product ready soon, can be sold globally
Angel Strategies helps companies bring products to market—quickly. The firm maintains contacts with top executives at a wide variety of larger technology companies. It also maintains relationships with retail outlets. But to help portfolio companies reach the market quickly the companies must have a product ready, or nearly ready, to be sold.
  • 2-3 strategic partners
Small firms in particular need to work with larger firms, to help them perfect technology, develop markets, reach customers, and so on. Angel Strategies’ vast network can help firms develop these crucial relationships.
  • Identified trade sale buyer or IPO strategy
By identifying how it will exit, Angel Strategies lowers its risk before it invests. Strategic partners are logical purchasers of the companies they work with. Angel Strategies will talk with these partners and other potential purchasers. Together with the Angel Strategies Investment Bank, it will, before it invests, develop a detailed exit strategy.
  • Presence in the US, if appropriate
Not all firms can or should enter the American market. For many high-technology industries the United States is a strategic market, and if a company should enter the American market Angel Strategies can help the firm do so. But many firms should not enter the American market, and Angel Strategies will invest in them as well.

If your company satisfies these criteria--or you think that with help your firm could satisfy these criteria--please send an email to lbl@angelstrategies.com.
