The Øresund Region - left alone with its own success?


A quiet revolution – that is how Jacob Vestergaard, marketing manager at Øresundsbrokonsortiet, characterizes the fusion between Sweden and Denmark in the Øresunds Region within the last years. This was the major news at Danish Radio P1 on April 25th 2008. Since the opening of the Øresundsbroen in 2000 there has been a dramatic growth in the number of Danes and Swedes who have decided to work and live across the Sound. Is it true that the success has been the result of market forces and the EU alone? And have the governments in Copenhagen and Stockholm been absent?
